Variety of Cold Beer on Tap

I am a devout Protestant….Well devout has many interpretations. But I have just found a compelling argument for being Protestant. Martin Luther, the man who was a key figure in the Protestant Reformation described my religious philosophy as such:

“Whoever drinks beer, he is quick to sleep; whoever sleeps long, does not sin; whoever does not sin, enters Heaven! Thus, let us drink beer!”

Many a devout church goer has discovered truth in these words, and the public ale house has often housed pious souls well on their way to avoid the temptation of sin. Who am I to argue with such a sound theological doctrine. And with so many wonderful microbreweries popping up all over the United States I am going to be a very reverent believer.

Now before my mom panics and begins to alert the call tree at church to pray for my wayward soul, I am somewhat joking, as I am fairly certain was Martin Luther when he gave us this wonderful quote. But partaking beer in moderation of course is a very enjoyable way to pass the time.

The Beer Scene in Michiana is becoming better all the time. Microbreweries are popping up serving excellent varieties of beer and food. As a good Protestant  I’ve been to a few of these excellent establishments.

Iechyd Da on a summer evening

Iechyd Da Brewing Company              317 N. Main St.   Elkhart, IN              574.293.0506

One such place is Iechyd Da in downtown Elkhart.  Step up to the counter and order from a variety of “English Milds to hoppy American IPA’s”. Pull up a stool to the bar, lounge in a comfortable chair or visit the outdoor patio. I highly recommend ordering Pizza. Everything is made in house with simple and fresh ingredients. Often dining out with my sister is a challenge due to her allergies. But we have found that breweries tend to have better food with simple ingredients making it easier to avoid processed foods containing mystery ingredients. Iechyd Da proves this theory true, allowing us to share a pizza, our favorite being The Kidwelly, which consists of Rosemary oil, ham, Smoked gouda,  mozzarella ,arugula and balsamic. Trust me, it’s good! Paired with a cold beer on tap and you are off to a good night.

Go Here to visit their website and full menu.

Most things in life do not come easy, but as it turns out piously drinking beer is easy. Cheers and can I have an Amen!
